Why Aluminium is the Best Lighting Material

Copper, stainless steel, aluminium or brass?

All of these metals can be commercially used as light fixtures, parts and materials.  However, at Azoogi we believe the best metal depends on the product and how it will be used. That’s why we’re proud to tell you that we use only aluminum reflectors, die cast fittings and heat sinks for all our LED lights. Here are some of the advantages aluminium has over other materials when it comes to lighting:

Lightweight

Aluminium has a weight of 2.7 g/cm 3. In other words, it’s a very lightweight metal. This makes it easier to transport and install, keeping the cost of our LED lights down.

Malleable

Aluminium is also very malleable. This means products of aluminium can be formed close to the end of the design process, streamlining high-volume production. With rising manufacturing costs, this is definitely an added benefit.

Strength

While aluminium is relatively easy to manipulate, don’t think that for one second it isn’t a sturdy material! Once we add alloys, aluminium provides great structural support; a strength to weight ratio that is superior to steel. Additionally, unlike most steel grades, aluminium does well in cold environments. The lower the temperature, the more aluminium’s strength increases, making it ideal for our outdoor and industrial lights.

Corrosion Resistance

When exposed to air, aluminium naturally generates a protective oxide coating that is highly corrosion resistant. This makes it ideal for lighting near coastal areas as it becomes resistant to chemicals such as sulfur and chlorides, while being electronically insulating.   If you check out Azoogi’s outdoor lighting all our LEDs have a die cast aluminium body to protect against tea staining and corrosion.

Heat Management

Arguably, heat management is one of the most important factors in extending the life expectancy of an LED light. So what is it? It’s the technology of preventing and reducing the build-up of heat in LED chips, which are sensitive to prolonged heat exposure. Management is mainly accomplished by the design and composition of the light’s heat sink (the ridged metal fixture attached to the back of the LED). Aluminium heat sinks are by far the best, as aluminium is a great thermal conductor. Additionally, our aluminium dishes are deep, not shallow, adding more surface and material for heat dissipation than other models. This helps us extend the life span of our LEDs for you.

Reflectivity

Aluminum has a visible light reflectivity of around 80% and can also reflect heat. This together with its low weight makes it a great reflector for our LED light fittings.

Recyclability

Lastly, in keeping with our 100% recyclable LED bulbs, aluminium is 100% recyclable.

We hope you can see now why we use aluminum for almost all our LED lights. It’s all about providing the best cost and usability for you!
